Certificates of Residency

Students attending community colleges may obtain a certificate of residency from the Treasurer's Office free of charge. The purpose of obtaining a residency certificate from the student's County of Residence is to give permission to the community college to bill Livingston County for matching tuition from the state, county, and student.

Qualifications

To qualify for a certificate of residency, the student must appear in person and present proof to the county that he/she has been a resident of New York State for a minimum of one year and in Livingston County for a period of six months prior to the date of the affidavit (or application). Residency of less than six months will be prorated.

Proof

Acceptable proof would include a driver's license, utility bill, bank statements and personal mail that show an actual address and not a P.O. Box address.

Completing the Affidavit

The affidavit for certificate of residence form can be obtained at the school you are attending or downloaded. The county treasurer has a notary public on staff to notarize your affidavit for you.
