Livingston County Suicide Prevention Task Force to Hold Eighth Annual Candlelight Vigil

GENESEO, N.Y., September 1, 2022 – Now in its eighth year, the Livingston County Suicide Prevention Task Force, alongside Genesee Valley Health Partnership and CASA-Trinity, Inc., will host a candlelight vigil at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 8 at Pavilion #3 in Al Lorenz Park in Mount Morris to coincide with two global events – International Overdose Day on August 31, 2022 and World Suicide Prevention Day on Saturday, September 10, 2022.

The vigil, which is free and open to the public, will be an evening of remembrance and hope and will honor loved ones lost to suicide and overdose.  The event will also be live-streamed on the Livingston County Suicide Prevention Task Force Facebook page for those who would like to attend virtually.  There will be guest speakers, testimonials and lighting of candles as a symbol of hope and reflection.

The event’s hosts are also asking residents to turn on their porch lights at 7:30 p.m. on September 8th in remembrance of those lost.

Lynne Mignemi, Director of the Livingston County Probation Department and Chairperson of the Suicide Prevention Task Force, said, “The Livingston County Suicide Prevention Task Force, CASA-Trinity, and the Genesee Valley Health Partnership look forward to hosting the 8th Annual Suicide and Overdose Awareness Candlelight Vigil on September 8, 2022 at Al Lorenz Park for the families, friends and loved ones of those lost to suicide and overdose death. The candlelight vigil has become an event where the community can come together with hope and shared stories that remember loved ones. The vigil will be held at Al Lorenz Park once again. Over the last few years, Al Lorenz Park has undergone an extraordinary face lift. The park offers an intimate, nature-focused setting that is perfect for this moving event. All are welcome, from our Livingston County community and surrounding counties. For those who attended last year, please note the location change to pavilion #3, which will allow us to take advantage of the natural beauty of the ponds and fountain.”
