GENESEO, N.Y., Sept. 14, 2022 — The Livingston County Office for the Aging (LCOFA) will co-host their 7th Annual Fall Prevention Workshop event on Sept. 16, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Lakeville Training Grounds, 5939 Stone Hill Road, Lakeville, N.Y.

According to the National Council on Aging, falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries among older adults. The workshop will mark the start of Falls Prevention Awareness Week, Sept. 18-24, and will feature several speakers who will address fall risk areas and highlight fall prevention strategies. Representatives of agencies and programs that assist older adults to prevent falls and maximize wellness will be on hand to provide information, said LCOFA Director Sue Carlock.

“Falls, with or without injury, carry a heavy quality of life impact,” she explained. “A large number of older adults fear falling and, as a result, often limit their activities and social engagements. This workshop is designed to empower older adults in our community to greatly reduce their risk of falls and improve their quality of life.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss medications with a licensed pharmacist during the workshop. Experts will be on hand to discuss vehicle safety tips specially tailored to the senior population. A demonstration of Tai Chi, a fall prevention exercise program, will also take place during the event. The workshop is a collaborative effort between the LCOFA and County Department of Health, Cornell Cooperative Extension, UR Medicine Noyes Health, Lifespan of Greater Rochester, and the Wilmot Cancer Institute, Genesee Valley Health Partnership, and Wegmans.

Lunch is included with this free event and registration is required for all participants. Please call (585) 335-4359 or e-mail to register today.
