GENESEO, N.Y., Sept. 19, 2023 – Livingston County Administrator Ian M. Coyle has announced the hiring of Nathan Cole as the next recipient of the County’s Dominic F. Mazza County Management Fellowship.
“We’re excited to welcome Nathan to this position,” said Coyle. “This fellowship will provide an inside look into the intricacies of local government and provide real-world experience with many of our award-winning departments and programs.”
A graduate of St. Bonaventure University with a Bachelor’s degree in political science, Cole comes to the position having recently held an internship with New York State’s Empire Development Corporation – an initiative that promotes the State’s economic goals, encourages business investment and job creation and supports diverse, prosperous local economies throughout New York State. Prior to that, Cole served as an intern with the office of United States Congressman Chris Jacobs.
“I appreciate the opportunity to join Livingston County in this important role and learn more from Mr. Coyle,” added Cole who is originally from Livingston County, having grown up in Livonia. “It is an honor to be able to serve the county I am from in a program that honors Mr. Mazza, who was an exemplary public servant. Local government is an incredibly important institution and I couldn’t be more excited to be part of my own local government.”
Created in 2018 to honor Livingston County’s first County Administrator, Dominic F. “Nick” Mazza, the Dominic F. Mazza County Management Fellowship program is an opportunity that offers students pursing a Master’s degree in public administration practical experience in learning the workings of county management in a progressive, award-winning government setting. A well-respected practitioner of local government and a credentialed ICMA manager, Mazza served Livingston County from 1989-2009. He is a former President of the New York State City/County Management Association and has taught ethics and budget training programs for the New York State Association of Counties for many years.
Cole, who is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in public administration at Syracuse University, is set to begin in his position on September 25th.
