GENESEO, N.Y., Jan. 2, 2024 — On Saturday, January 6, 2024, National Grid will conduct a scheduled power outage in northern Livingston County that will take place beginning at 7:30 a.m. and last through 4:30 p.m. The outage is in response to the identification of a line system that, if involved in a significant weather event, could lead to a widespread outage for a significant period of time.
In anticipation of cold weather and home-heating sources potentially being temporarily unavailable, Livingston County has established four warming centers that will be open for emergency needs to Livingston County residents throughout the duration of the outage.
Lima Emergency Medical Services Base (7024 W Main Rd, Lima, N.Y. 14485)
East Avon Fire Department (1615 West Henrietta Road, Avon, N.Y. 14414)
Avon Fire Department (74 Genesee St, Avon, N.Y. 14414)
JW Jones Hall - Staffed by Caledonia Fire Department (366 Leicester Rd, Caledonia, N.Y. 14423)
Hemlock Fire Department (7375 Al Sharpe Ave., Hemlock, N.Y. 14466)
These warming centers are designed for those with no other option to escape the cold and will not be able to accommodate all residents without power.
In preparation for the power outage, the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management recommends that households determine an alternative location to spend the day outside of the impacted area if possible. Additionally, officials recommend making a plan for pets. Animals, other than those needed for service purposes, will NOT be allowed in Livingston County warming centers. Furthermore, it is recommended that residents refrain from using non-conventional heating methods – especially inside - check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure that they’re in working condition and make a plan to check on loved ones or those who are vulnerable.
Emergency responders have been made aware of the event and will respond to calls as they arise. To learn more about the power outage, please visit National Grid’s website.
